REPUBLICANS from across the south-east gathered in Hugginstown, County Kilkenny, on Friday evening, 23 November, to remember Allen, Larkin and O’Brien, The Manchester Martyrs.
The commemoration, which has taken place for the past 30 years, is one of the last torch-lit processions in the country.
Sinn Féin Carlow/Kilkenny representative Kathleen Funchion chaired proceedings, which were also addressed by Peadar de Bluit of Ógra Shinn Féin. Jim Monaghan signed copies of his new book, Colombia Jail Journal.
The main speaker was Sinn Féin United Ireland spokesperson and Kerry North TD Martin Ferris, who delivered a passionate address about driving forward the current political strategy to, in the words of Tom Williams, “that certain day” when Ireland will be united and free.
