SINN FÉIN in County Monaghan have revealed that the cathaoirleach of Monaghan Town Council is among those receiving a special presentation at the annual Republican Honourees’ Dance which is to be held in Castleblayney on Saturday week, 17 November.  Councillor Padraigín Uí Mhurchadha is one of five people considered as particularly deserving by her fellow Sinn Féin members for this important recognition.
The Honourees’ Dance is billed as a night of celebration to acknowledge people who have given considerable service to their local communities and to the Irish republican struggle.
It is particularly apt that Councillor Uí Mhurchadha would be offered this honour in this the year she holds the position of first citizen of her town. Many will also be mindful of the fact that 2007 also marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Padraigín’s brother Fergal O’ Hanlon, an IRA Volunteer killed in action alongside Seán Sabhat from Limerick during an attack on Brookeborough Barracks on New Year’s Day 1957.
