The annual 1916 Rising commemoration at The Loup in Co. Derry on Easter Sunday saw a major mobilisation of hundreds of republicans from across Counties Derry and Antrim as well as Tyrone's Loughshore. The colourful parade which assembled on Ballyronan was led by South Derry Martyrs Flute band. Marchers made their way to the grave of Brigadier Seán Larkin who was executed by Free State forces at Drumboe, Co. Donegal during the period of the civil war. The oration was given by newly elected Sinn Féin MLA for Mid-Ulster, Michelle O'Neill.
Earlier in the day, North Derry republicans gathered for their 1916 Rising commemoration in Dungiven at 12.00 noon. The audience was addressed by Caral Ní Chuilin, MLA for North Belfast. On Easter Monday Swatragh republicans assembled at The Diamond before making their way to Granaghan Churchyard for a wreathlaying ceremony. They were addressed by Sinn Féin MLA, Francie Molloy. Wreathlaying ceremonies took place over the Easter weekend at 13 separate republican plots. All events were organised by Counties Derry and Antrim Republican Graves Association.

The Easter commemoration in Gleann Cholmcille, County Donegal was addressed by Fermanagh Sinn Féin Councillor Bernice Swift. Referring to successive 26-County governments she said those who called themselves Ireland’s leaders “are not fit to tie the bootlaces of the heroes of 1916 and indeed the good men and women who came after. Our presence here today is not merely in remembrance of 1916 and the men from Gleann Cholmcille who fought and died for their country and for a workers’ republic, it is a reflection of our determination to see out, through thick and thin, the implementation of our goals and to create an Ireland of Equals”.

Easter commemorations throughout Co. Monaghan were hugely successful. Hundreds of people participated in the county parade in Monaghan town on Easter Sunday afternoon. Commemorations were also held in Inniskeen on Easter Saturday and at Scotshouse and Clones on Easter Monday.
Wreath-laying ceremonies took place on Easter Sunday morning at cemeteries throughout the county including at Annyalla, Carrickroe, Castleblayney, Clara, Clontibret, Corcaghan, Raferagh, Trinity (Rockcorry), Tyholland and Urbleshanny.
The assembly point for the Monaghan town parade was the Memorial to Fergal O'Hanlon, the 50th anniversary of whose death occurred this year. Before the parade set off a wreath was laid at the O'Hanlon Memorial by North Monaghan Councillor Brenda McAnespie.
South Monaghan councillor and Monaghan Sinn Féin chairperson Matt Carthy chaired the proceedings at Latlurcan. There was applause when the chairperson declared that Cavan-Monaghan TD Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin was over his recent health scare and was working 'day and night once again' for Sinn Féin and the people of Cavan/ Monaghan.
