Strike notice served on Dairygold, Mallow

Seven days notice of industrial action has been served on Dairygold's milk processing plant in Mallow, according to SIPTU Mallow Branch Organiser John Cooney.

"This dispute is over management's attempt to unilaterally change the working arrangements of our members without negotiation or agreement.

"Existing working arrangements provide for 44 weeks on shift and eight weeks on days. Management tried to bring forward the day shift by almost four weeks before it was scheduled to begin."

Gender pay gap among graduates

A report published by the Economic Social and Research Institute this week has found that women graduates are earning over 8% less than men in the private sector, while the hourly gender pay gap in the public sector is now 'not significant'.

The report also found that a higher proportion of men than women received bonuses from their employers in the last 12 months and that the value of bonuses is approximately 25% higher for men.

Copies of the report, Degrees of Equality: Gender Pay Differentials among Recent Graduates can be ordered from the ESRI.
