Sectarian attacks in Derry

Two Catholic schoolboys were assaulted in a sectarian attack in Derry by up to six loyalist youths as they made their way home from school on Thursday 28 April.

The boys, both pupils at Oakgrove Integrated College, were dragged to the ground and attacked as they made their way to their Knockallen Park homes after getting off a schoolbus in the Waterside area of Derry.

In a second sectarian attack, a taxi driver working for a cab firm based in the Cityside and his two passengers narrowly escaped serious injury when a brick was thrown through the back window of the vehicle as it passed Lincoln Courts in the Waterside in the early hours of Sunday 1 May.

The driver said he and other taxi drivers from his firm will not travel past the Waterside estate in future because of safety fears.
