Empty bus lanes slammed

The Government has come under fire once again over its mismanagement of the transport and traffic problems in Dublin City.

Sinn Féin Donaghmede Councillor Killian Forde has lashed into the Department of Transport for allowing a multi-million two-kilometre stretch of bus lane on the N32 to lie idle, while car users on the same road sit in traffic gridlock.

The N32 runs towards Dublin Airport and since the private company which ran 'AerDart' along the route quit its service, airport workers have been left without public transport to the northeast of the city.

Forde has called on the government to release funds promised to Dublin Bus in 2001, which would allow them to purchase 150 buses, some of which would be used on the deserted bus lane.
