Choppers grounded in Lisnaskea

Fermanagh MLA Thomas O'Reilly, MLA reports on good news for Lisnaskea residents who live in close proximity to the joint PSNI/British Army Barracks.

Helicopter flights into and out of this base in Fermanagh have been stopped. This has come about as a result of a long campaign by O'Reilly and local residents directed at the NIO to end dangerous flights into and out of the base over heavily populated areas of the town.

"Residents complained that they lived in fear of one of these helicopters developing problems as they landed and took off and crashing down on their homes," said O'Reilly. "In addition, they had to suffer the constant noise and invasion of privacy, not to mention the fact that they were constantly aware that unwelcome visitors were just around the corner."

He called for an end to all helicopter activity. "It is with great satisfaction that I saw work on the dismantling process begin. We want to see an end to the presence of British troops here and the day when they leave can't come soon enough."
