Sinn Féin challenges IMC members to resign

A Sinn Féin delegation met with the Independent Monitoring Commission in Belfast on Tuesday and challenged the body's members to resign and set aside their four reports to date.

The delegation was led by Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey, who pointed out that the IMC was established in breach of the Good Friday Agreement; that it operates outside the Agreement and contrary to natural justice and the European Convention on Human Rights; and that it can have no role in the political process.

"We set out our position again to them today that they are not an independent body, are not impartial and that their reports have been used by the British Government to discriminate against our party and in an attempt to interfere with the democratic process," he said.
