Wexford Sinn Féin reselects Dwyer

A packed selection convention in Enniscorthy, attended by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams and chaired by Mary Lou McDonald MEP, last month saw Wexford County Councillor John Dwyer selected as the party's candidate to contest the next general election in Wexford.

John Dwyer was first elected to New Ross Town council in 1999 and was the party's candidate in Wexford at the 2002 general election, securing 5,000 first preference votes and narrowly missing a seat on that occasion. John was re-elected to New Ross Town Council and also elected to Wexford County Council at last June's local elections and was the Sinn Féin candidate for the East constituency at the EU elections, when the party's vote in Leinster rose by 97%, with Dwyer achieving 40,000 first preference votes for the party.
