Young republicans to rally in Dublin

NATIONAL REPUBLICAN YOUTH CONGRESS | FRIDAY & SATURDAY, 2 & 3 MARCH

YOUNG REPUBLICAN ACTIVISTS from all over Ireland converge on Dublin on Friday and Saturday, 2/3 March, for a landmark event in the history of Republican Youth.

Hosted in the Ballybough Community Centre in the heart of the city and close to Croke Park, the Sinn Féin Republican Youth National Congress brings to a close a significant year in youth development for the party.

Urging maximum attendance at the Congress, National Youth Committee Chair Darren O’Rourke said:

“This will be a very significant event for Republican Youth and will come as the culmination of a year of much work and much progress. The Congress will include an address from international guests, discussion and debate on republican strategy, other key issues, ceol and craic, as well as a Presidential address from Gerry Adams TD.

“While the event is open to all, we are particularly encouraging all members and supporters of the party under the age of 30, whatever their role or position, to make attendance at this National Congress a priority.

“It promises to be a very interesting, valuable and enjoyable weekend, giving young republicans an opportunity to meet like-minded young people from all over the country, to debate and discuss the issues of the day, and to share ideas.”

“This year we have seen a lot of work in bringing more young people into the party and making the party more attractive to young people. Following on from the launch of the party’s Youth Strategy at last year’s Belfast Ard Fheis, local youth committees have sprung up all over the country, building on previous structures and developing new structures, with the stated aim of popularising republican politics in their communities.

“This Congress will give Republican Youth a solid foundation on which to build for the future, to develop the next generation of republican leaders, and promises to be a great event and a good opportunity for young people to enjoy themselves.”
