Molly McGinn

The community of Castleblayney, County Monaghan, and the wider republican community of the border counties of Monaghan and Armagh were deeply saddened by the passing on Thursday 2 December of Molly McGinn, a stalwart republican and native of Toome, Castleblayney.

The late Mrs McGinn was mother of Briege and mother-in-law of Sinn Féin Dáil Leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin. She is also survived by her three sons, Seán, Bernard and Paul.

The late Mrs McGinn's husband, Patsy (RIP), was a Sinn Féin member of Castleblayney Town Council who predeceased his wife by 20 years.

A staunch supporter of the republican cause, Molly McGinn was a friend to all who needed her assistance, whether active republican or someone in need in her community. Faithful always to her beliefs, she will be greatly missed by her grieving family and many friends of all ages.

Her remains were brought to St Mary's Church, Castleblayney, on Saturday 4 December, for Requiem Mass and burial in the adjoining cemetery. A Sinn Féin Guard of Honour lined the approach and steps to the chapel, where Fr John McCabe PP officiated.

The sympathy of the Republican Movement is extended to her daughter Briege, sons Seán, Bernard and Paul, son-in-law Caoimhghín, sister-in-law Vera Lanney and to her grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
