Sinn Féin has selected Councillor Paul Butler to stand in next year's Westminster election in Lagan Valley. The party has been a breath of fresh air to politics in the Lagan Valley constituency said Gerry Adams, welcoming the announcement. "Sinn Féin has become the largest nationalist party in Lagan Valley and next year's Westminster election will be another opportunity to strengthen our vote," he said.

"Sinn Féin in Lagan Valley will continue to challenge the no camp of unionism," said Paul Butler. "We want to counter the negative and uncompromising politics of Jeffrey Donaldson and the DUP. We have seen how the DUP have squandered the chances of an historic deal. The real question in all of this is are people like Donaldson and the DUP up to sharing power for the good of all the people of Lagan Valley. The voters of Lagan Valley have the power to bring about that change by voting for those parties who are pro-Agreement and want politics based on equality, partnership and mutual respect.

"We have shown that we are the only party to stand up for the rights of nationalists and non unionists in the Lagan Valley constituency. It is important that the voters of Lagan Valley do not allow people like Jeffrey Donaldson and the DUP to dominate politics in Lagan Valley for the next five years."
