There was a massive crowd in Hope Castle, Castleblayney, County Monaghan last Friday evening for a special fund raising dance organised by the local Sinn Féin cumann.

The night's entertainment was arranged in a bid to raise funds for a memorial to be unveiled on the 30th anniversary of the death of IRA Volunteer John Francis Green next year.

The guest speaker on the night was Sinn Féin MLA and former mayor of Belfast, Alex Maskey, who described the attendance on the night as a great tribute to John Francis Green and the cause for which he gave his life.

The local Sinn Féin Chairperson, Fintan Smyth, acted as MC. Other speakers on the night were Monaghan County Councillor Jackie Crowe and Mid-Monaghan Organiser and member of the Ard Chomhairle Ollie Bradley. Speakers welcomed members of the Green family who were in attendance.

The committee has thanked everyone who bought tickets, attended the dance and helped in any way to make the night the success it was.

All funds raised will go towards a memorial which will be unveiled at a very special commemoration set to take place on Sunday 9 January 2005 in Castleblayney, with Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams the guest speaker.
