Death of Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry Loughran

The death has occurred of Sinn Féin Monaghan Town Councillor Gerry Loughran. Aged 60, Gerry died suddenly at his workplace on Tuesday 1 November. A native of Edendork, County Tyrone, Gerry had lived for many years in Monaghan.

Gerry was well known throughout the border counties and served as a member of Monaghan Town Council since 1999.

Paying tribute to Gerry, Sinn Féin Dáil leader Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin said: "Gerry's death has come as a devastating blow to his family, his many friends and all his republican comrades. Gerry was a great friend, a true republican and one of the most popular people in his adopted town of Monaghan. We extend our deepest sympathy to Gerry's wife Éilís, daughter Kelly and son Seán and the extended family."

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP has also extended his condolences to the family and friends of Gerry Loughran.

"It was with deep shock that I learned this evening of the death of Gerry Loughran," said Adams.

"On behalf of Sinn Féin, I want to extend my condolences to his wife Eilish and his children Kelly and Sean. Gerry will be deeply missed by all of us who knew him. I measc laochra na nGael a raibh sé."

Funeral arrangements: Removal from his home on this Friday morning 5 November at 10am for Funeral Mass in St Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan, at 11am. Burial afterwards in Edendork Cemetery, County Tyrone.
