Louth Council wants Brit mast felled
A Sinn Féin motion slamming the building last Christmas of a British Army mast at Forkhill, on the border of Armagh and Louth, has been passed at the October meeting of Louth County Council.
Sinn Féin Councillor Tomás Sharkey proposed the motion, saying that the border area between the two counties is saturated with military installations.
"The British Army did not notify the community about their plans, did not supply an Environmental Impact Study and does not disclose the true nature of radiation emissions from these masts," Sharkey said.
An amendment to the motion calling on the council to write to the Direct Rule Minister in charge of security, John Spellar, requesting a meeting to discuss concerns, was also accepted.
