New look for Irish Democrat website

THE WEBSITE of the Irish Democrat (www.irishdemocrat.co.uk), the oldest campaigning newspaper of the Irish in Britain, has undergone a major revamp.

The changes, which include a free subscription and update service, will make the site more appealing to its wide range of users.

In addition to news, comment and political analysis, historical features and an extensive review section, the site now also features a number of new sections:

* Reports and papers from the annual Desmond Greaves Summer School in Dublin

* Window on the EU — news and analysis from a euro-critical perspective

The site is also about to start publishing material about and by the late Desmond Greaves, writer, historian, political campaigner and editor of the Irish Democrat for 40 years up to his death in 1988.

Speaking about the revamp, Irish Democrat on-line editor David Granville said:

"I believe that the Irish Democrat has always been essential reading for anyone who is interested in the' Irish question' or Irish history from an independent and politically progressive point of view.

"The site will continue to include most of what is published in the bi-monthly print edition. However for some time now we have been supplementing this with additional news, feature and review material, providing significant extra value.

"The site contains a large body of material and the real challenge has been to make it even more informative, attractive and user friendly."
