GUE/NGL's Marisa Matias named 'Health Policy MEP of the Year'
PORTUGUESE GUE/NGL MEP Marisa Matias (right) has been chosen for the MEP of the year award in health policy in a poll of MEPs organised by The Parliament Magazine.
The awards were announced Tuesday night at a ceremony held in Brussels with Matias recognised for being very active in many fields, with particular emphasis on chronic diseases such as diabetes, mental health and Alzheimer’s.
In presenting the short-list of candidates, Parliament Magazine said Marisa Matias was “instrumental in draft proposals to control the sale of counterfeit medicines, which seem to be growing across Europe. Also rapporteur on this directive, Matias managed to get overall consensus from all parties which means member states will now have to have measures in place to recall any falsified medicines which make it into the legal supply chain.”
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún is a member of the GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament.
