Dwyer upbeat as he hands in EU nomination papers
Wexford Councillor John Dwyer, Sinn Féin EU candidate for the East constituency in the European elections, was upbeat on his party's election prospects as he handed in his nomination papers in Trim Courthouse in Meath on Monday. Party colleagues Louth TD Arthur Morgan, Wexford local election candidate David Forde and Meath Cllr Joe Reilly accompanied Cllr Dwyer.
Speaking after his nomination, Cllr Dwyer said he was proud to have been chosen to represent Sinn Féin and pledged that "I will take our vision for Europe to the doorsteps, the length and breadth of the East constituency.
"Sinn Féin wants to be part of a Europe of equals. Unfortunately, the current direction of the EU reflects the will of big business and the large, wealthy and militaristic member states. Most European states have already begun to restrict access to workers from the accession states. This is not the type of EU that Sinn Féin wants to be involved in.
"A job of work has to be done. Sinn Féin stands ready for that challenge."
