EU campaign underway in Fermanagh

Sinn Féin MLA Bairbre de Brún officially launched the Fermanagh leg of her Six-County EU election campaign on Saturday last in the Donn Carragh Hotel in Lisnaskea.

Sinn Féin MLA Thomas O'Reilly chaired the proceedings, and Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams, Michelle Gildernew MP, Cllr Gerry McHugh, Cllr Ruth Lynch and Bairbre herself all spoke.

Adams said he was delighted to be back in the constituency of Fermanagh/South Tyrone, which had elected Hunger Striker Bobby Sands MP nearly 23 years ago. He said that he considers Bairbre to be the best candidate for the upcoming elections, adding that her election would internationalise the party's struggle. He called on all activists across the Six Counties, especially in the current climate of attacks on Sinn Féin, to get out and work for the elections to ensure Bairbre's success. "We should not allow the people who wish to defeat our struggle to win."

Bairbre spoke about the importance of having all-Ireland representation in Europe, emphasising that Sinn Féin is the only party that can deliver this. She reminded those present that 70% of all laws are passed in the European Parliament and then introduced into Ireland.
