Kerry remembers Tan War Volunteer

A cross was erected at Liscahane Bridge on Easter Monday in remembrance of Fian Danny Driscoll, who at 16 years of age was murdered by the Black and Tans on 9 April 1921. An IRA unit had just blown up the bridge on the Tralee road to Ardfert and Driscoll was still in the area when the Tans arrived.

Pictured are Patrick Lawlor, Kerry Ógra Shinn Féin; Pats Driscoll, nephew of Danny; Martin Ferris TD; Jeremiah Clifford, Chairperson of Ardfert Sinn Féin cumann: and Brendan O'Dell, also of Kerry Ógra Shinn Féin.

The two Ógra members are entirely responsible for the erection of the cross. Both have been researching local republican history for the Ardfert cumann and felt that it would be appropriate to honour a young Ardfert republican who was not much younger than themselves when he was killed.
