Murdered Belfast teen remembered

Over 1,000 people attended a vigil in memory of the West Belfast teenager Megan McAlorum last Thursday 15 April.

Megan (16) was abducted and killed as she returned from a night out with friends on Easter Sunday and her body was found near the isolated Glenside Road on the outskirts of West Belfast on Monday 12 April.

The vigil, organised by people from the Greater Lenadoon area, local community workers and clergy, was held at the shops in the Glencolin estate close to the McAlorum family home. Megan's parents, Frankie and Margaret, attended the vigil.

Community worker Gerry McConville, from Lenadoon, chaired the proceedings, which saw local Sinn Féin councillor Gerard O'Neill thank the large crowd for their support for and solidarity with the McAlorum family.

Friends of Megan read tributes to their murdered friend. Thousands of people have signed books of condolences in memory of the dead girl.

Two people, a 16-year-old youth and a 24-year-old man, have appeared in court charged in connection with the killing.
