The Rosemount Anti-Watchtower Group in Derry City has written to the city council asking it to covene a meeting between PSNI boss Hugh Orde and the group to discuss the removal of the watchtower from Rosemount PSNI Barracks near Creggan.

The group's chairperson, Cecil Hutcheon, said they have been campaigning for the removal of this intrusive equipment from the PSNI's Rosemount Barracks for over 15 years.

"With the IRA's cessation in 1994 nearly ten years old, we believe that there is little reason why this watchtower should remain," he said. "We want to ask Hugh Orde face to face what reason do the PSNI have to continue to use this surveillance equipment against the people of this area, and to demand the immediate closure of this base."
