Adams in Dundalk and Drogheda

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams, along with Sinn Féin EU Candidate John Dwyer, met residents of Fatima/Toberona on a visit to Dundalk on Wednesday evening 31 March.

They were welcomed to the area by Sinn Féin Louth County Councillor Tomás Sharkey, Dundalk Town Councillor Geraldine Cassidy and Fatima resident and Sinn Féin candidate for Dundalk Town Council in the local elections, Ann Shields.

Adams and John Dwyer are pictured with Sharkey and Shields signing a petition in support of a campaign in the area to have the evening Bus Éireann service reinstated. Several weeks ago the service was discontinued because of anti-social behaviour but the move has disproportionately affected the elderly and young families.

Gerry Adams MP and John Dwyer also met with local postal workers in Drogheda last week. Since then, the suspensions that sparked the dispute have been lifted and the postal service is returning to normal.

Commenting, local election candidate Dom Wilton welcomed the return of the postal service to the town but added that talks will have to continue to avoid a recurrence. "We must also look at the action of Fianna Fáil Minister Dermot Ahern, who failed to intervene in the dispute," he said. "As the largest shareholder, the government has a duty to ensure that management is acting appropriately and must pro-actively get involved in remedying the problems. As in the past, Fianna Fáil has once again failed to deliver for Drogheda."
