Sinn Féin European election candidate John Dwyer was in Drogheda on Friday last giving support to the postal workers in the town. Louth TD Arthur Morgan and local election candidate Tom Cunningham joined him this week in urging people to post their mail at Drogheda Post Office despite management of An Post saying they can't deal with the present backlog. The Communications Workers Union (CWU) which represents delivery workers, has guaranteed that post brought to Drogheda Post Office will be delivered.

The management of An Post has sealed up all the post boxes in the town and post has to be handed in to the post office in order to be delivered. The six-week-old dispute is in relation to the non-payment of overtime for work carried out by the postal workers.

An Post management has been involved in a policy of misinformation in relation to the ongoing dispute and refuses to sit down and talk to the workers. Meanwhile, as the dispute continues, Minister Dermot Ahern has refused to get involved.
