Sinn Féin member threatened

Those behind an alleged threat issued to a County Armagh Sinn Féin activist are "lacking in political intelligence and credibility", says Sinn Féin Councillor Cathy Rafferty.

A Mass Card with a bullet enclosed and containing the words RIP and was signed Continuity IRA, Armagh was sent to the member last week.

"The man is very fearful for his life. These micro-groupings enjoy little or no support within the nationalist community. At a time when we are intensely involved in attempting to move the Peace Process forward it is disappointing that threats are issued against our members, especially from groups purporting to be republican," said Rafferty.

Meanwhile, a caller to a newsroom, claiming to represent the Continuity IRA, rejected claims that it had issued the death threat.
