UDA up tempo in sectarian intimidations

A Dunmurry pensioner's home has been the subject of a sectarian attack for the 36th time by members of the UDA.

Trevor George (73), who lives on the edge of the loyalist Seymour estate with his wife Alice (69), was at home on Monday 3 December when masked UDA members pelted his home and conservatory with petrol bombs, breaking a number of windows and causing scorch marks to the outside of the building. Graffiti warning that all "Taigs will be killed" was painted on the Road outside the home.

George, who has lived in the same Ballybog Road house since 1960, said he had come under countless sectarian attacks over the decades because his wife is a Catholic.

"I think we are the only mixed marriage couple left in the area and the UDA are determined to get us out," said George. "Somebody needs to get that UDA crowd out of the Seymour estate. We won't be moving house; we just have to suffer on."

Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Butler said in the last few weeks he has been dealing with a number of cases in which Catholics have been intimidated out of their homes by unionist paramilitaries.

He said in the past week sectarian graffiti has appeared on traffic signs in Stoneyford and at the Seymour Hill estate warning "Taigs" to get out.
