Sinn Féin supports Nenagh hospital rally

Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris and Munster EU candidate David Cullinane attended a rally in Nenagh on Saturday in defence of local hospitals threatened with loss of services by the Hanly Report.

Speaking in the North Tipperary town, Martin Ferris stated:

"At a time of Government cuts and the continuing crisis in our health services, it is proposed under the Hanly Report to deprive local hospitals of vital services. Communities around the country are getting organised in opposition to this. They have seen how hospitals like Monaghan and Dundalk have been downgraded and they are saying that they do not want the same thing to happen to their hospitals.

"We are promised centres of excellence where services will be centralised. But at existing centres of excellence, such as the main Dublin hospitals, the waiting lists are growing worse because of the Government's failure to target resources effectively and to reform the grossly unfair two-tier system. The Fianna Fáil/PD government must listen to the voice of the people."
