Ultimate dream of Tyrone Gaels fulfilled

West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty says that the realisation of the ultimate dream of generations of Tyrone Gaels has given way to an outpouring of joy and emotion in Tyrone that is unparalleled in the annals of GAA history.

"Despite winning the League and Ulster double, the muted celebrations of players and management portrayed a determination and single-minded focus to deliver the ultimate prize for the people of this county," he said.

"Everyone in Tyrone is eternally indebted to Mickey Harte, Fr Gerard McAleer and every player on the Tyrone Panel during this championship.

"When Peter the Great lifted the Sam Maguire on Sunday, there was uniform agreement that no player in the country was more deserving of this honour.

"Bringing Sam Maguire to Tyrone is a just reward for the dedication of everyone, both past and present, associated with Gaelic games in Tyrone.

"Particular tribute must be paid to Art McRory and Eugene McKenna, who sowed the seeds of this unforgettable victory.

"You have all given us so much pride and joy. Go raibh míle maith agaibh uilig go léir!"
