Jeremiah O'Leary Commemoration
n, North Kerry Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris spoke of the tragedy
and the brutality associated with the death of Jeremiah O'Leary. To shoot a
man in the back having just released him from custody was a cowardly and
reprehensible act, he said. Ferris paid tribute to the courage of O'Leary,
who had prosecuted a long and arduous struggle to secure justice and freedom
for all of the people of Ireland. "It is incumbent on each and everyone of
us to continue that noble struggle to that end," he said. "As republicans we
will be facing into important elections at both European and local level
next year. Let us work to the best of our collective ability to strengthen
the republican voice. By doing so, we will be paying a fitting tribute to
republicans like Jeremiah O'Leary, who paid the ultimate price."
