Dublin pays tribute to fallen hero
There was the usual good turnout in Dublin last Saturday for the annual Volunteer Martin Doherty commemoration.
Doherty, an IRA Volunteer from Finglas, lost his life in May 1994 as he foiled a loyalist bomb attempt on a republican function in Dublin.
Speaking at the commemoration, Tyrone Assembly member Barry McElduff reflected on Doherty's courage, life and legacy. "This was a man who took the armed struggle to England, who spent six years in Portlaoise Prison, a man immersed in activism and genuinely fearless," he said.
"People are proud to be from their home place," he said, "and if I was from Finglas I would be very proud to be from the same area as Volunteer Martin Doherty."
