Other NewsWicklow Sinn Féin's first dinner dance a great success
Photo: Eric Montgomery and Gerry Adams WICKLOW Sinn Féin held its first annual dinner dance in the Parkview Hotel in Newtownmountkennedy last Friday, 4 December. This was the first dinner dance in the Garden County and was held to honour veteran republican Eric Montgomery. The night got off to a wonderful start with a display of Irish dancing from the girls in the Dowling School of Dancing, followed by a fabulous four-course meal. The main speeches began with Sinn Féin Mayor of Navan Joe Reilly speaking about his days in jail with Eric Montgomery. Joe recalled many fond memories of their time in prison before making a presentation to Eric on behalf of the Republican Movement in Wicklow. The main address was given by Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams. GAA JERSEY James Stafford, a senior county footballer in Wicklow, made a presentation to the Sinn Féin president and many agreed it was something Gerry Adams has always wished for – a football jersey from a county that has begun to set a standard of football at a national level. Sinn Féin Councillor John Brady also made a presentation to Gerry Adams, a book on the Civil War in Wicklow produced by local republican Henry Cairns, the book having been launched in Bray earlier that evening. Wicklow Sinn Féin would like to thank everyone who supported this event and look forward to their continued support in the future. Articles may not be reproduced without the consent of An Phoblacht.
