Catholic taxis targeted

A WOMAN passenger needed reconstructive surgery after she was hit by a brick as she travelled in a taxi in the Glenmachen Street area of Belfast. The woman, a 25-year-old student from Germany, was hit in the face when a brick was thrown through the windscreen.
A number of Catholic taxi firms operating out of depots in West Belfast and displaying signs on their vehicles have recently been attacked in the same area, close to the loyalist Tate’s Avenue.
One taxi firm has had 15 of its vehicles damaged by stone-throwers in the same vicinity over the last few weeks. A spokesperson for the taxi firms said attacks have been reported to the PSNI but, to date, there had been no response.
The injured woman was taken immediately to hospital by the taxi driver where she underwent surgery for a fractured jaw.
