Photo: Eilish McCabe On Tuesday 5 August Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams attended the wake of Eilish McCabe (née McAnespie), the sister of Aidan McAnespie who was shot dead on the border at Aughnacloy by the British Army in February 1988.On behalf of Sinn Féin Adams extended his condolences to Eilish’s parents, and to her husband Paul and children Una and Finbarr, as well as the extended McAnespie family. Adams said: “The McAnespie family have courageously and tirelessly campaigned for over 20 years for the truth around the killing by a British soldier of Aidan. “Eilish played a key role in this campaign. She was an articulate and committed activist for truth who worked closely with other families also seeking answers to questions around state killings of their relatives. “On behalf of Sinn Féin I want to extend my condolences and sympathies to Eilish’s parents, and to her husband Paul and children Una and Finbarr, as well as the extended McCabe and McAnespie family.” Articles may not be reproduced without the consent of An Phoblacht.
