Other NewsScrap privatisation of Dublin Bus routes
THE Government decision not to privatise a number of Dublin Bus routes has been welcomed by Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty, who called on Transport Minister Noel Dempsey to scrap all privatisation plans for Dublin Bus services. The Sinn Féin senator hopes that this decision will see the release of the 200 buses that have been blocked pending privatisation. He said: “Privatisation has been proved to be detrimental to public services in other sectors. We only have to look to the poor roll-out of broadband since the privatisation of Eircom or the fiasco that ensued following the privatisation of Aer Lingus to see that privatisation does not work. Privatisation is also at the heart of the crisis in our two-tier health services.” Articles may not be reproduced without the consent of An Phoblacht. For further information, please contact |
