Derry Sinn Féin in a joint delegation with the Bogside Residents Group (BRG) met on Wednesday, 8 August with the PSNI in the city to discuss the policing operation around this weekend’s Apprentice Boys Parade.Speaking following the meeting Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney said “The focus of today’s meeting was to discuss the policing operation around the Apprentice Boys Parade which will take place in Derry this coming Saturday. It was an open and frank discussion. As public representatives we will endeavour to ensure that the whole day passes off peacefully, with as little disruption as possible to the life of the city and that the human rights of all citizens are upheld‰ “It is essential that communities get the policing service that they are entitled to. I believe that a critical engagement between republicans and the PSNI can help bring this about‰ “Sinn Féin’s focus in all of our engagements with the PSNI - indeed with all of the policing structures - will be to ensure that it carries out its duties and responsibilities in a fair and impartial way, as a civic police service, which is democratically accountable to the public.” Articles may not be reproduced without the consent of An Phoblacht.
