Events to coincide with British queen’s state visit

DURING the state visit of the British queen to the 26 Counties from May 17th, Sinn Féin is staging a number of events around her itinerary.
It is also supporting ceremonies held by victims group Justice for the Forgotten calling for full co-operation by Queen Elizabeth’s government into the Dublin/Monaghan bombings.
The British queen arrives in Dublin on the exact anniversary of the Dublin/Monaghan bombings of May 17th 1974. The attacks killed 33 people: 26 people died in Dublin city centre; six people died in Monaghan, with one injured person later dying in a Dublin hospital. Almost 300 were injured.
It was the highest number of casualties on any single day during the most recent phase of the conflict.
A unanimous all-party Oireachtas motion in July 2008 calling for Britain to fully co-operate in the Dáil inquiry into the attacks and allegations of collusion between the British military and intelligence services with the bombers of Dublin and Monaghan has been ignored to date.
On May 17th, Justice for the Forgotten is holding a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument in Talbot Street, close to Connolly Rail Station. Justice for the Forgotten welcomes support but has asked that there be no banners or flags.
Sinn Féin will release one thousand black balloons in Dublin City Centre to coincide with the visit of the British monarch as one of a number of events in Dublin and elsewhere.
