Dublin 'Walk of Hope' on International Suicide Prevention Day
A WALK and candle light vigil is to take place in Dublin on Saturday 10 September to mark International Suicide Prevention Day.
Sinn Féin Senator Máire Devine (pictured) told An Phoblacht:
“Be it a friend, family member, or a neighbour, suicide is an issue that goes beyond party politics. It is an issue that occurs in all areas of Irish society and effects people from all walks of life.”
Inviting people to join the event, Senator Devine said:
“We encourage you to invite all your friends, family, and neighbours along too. This is a cross-community event and we want to see as many people as possible turn out.”
The walk begins at 6pm on Saturday and will leave from Pimlico beside the Tree of Hope and march to Richmond Barracks, where a candle-light ceremony will begin at 8pm.
“We want to see all aspects of the community represented on a day for those lost but not forgotten,” the Senator said.
