Strabane 25th anniversary tribute to Óglach Danny McCauley next Friday
REPUBLICANS will gather this Friday evening in Strabane to pay tribute to the memory of Volunteer Danny McCauley, O/C West Tyrone Command, Óglaigh na hÉireann, 25 years on from Danny’s untimely death.
This Friday 3 June marks 25 years to the day of Danny’s untimely death. To coincide with this landmark anniversary date, a commemorative parade will leave Casement Place at 7:30pm and make its way to Strabane Cemetery where Francie Molloy MP will be the main speaker.
Following the graveside proceedings there will be an exhibition in memory of Danny in Fountain Street Community Centre at which refreshments will be served.
Speaking on behalf of Strabane National Graves Association, organisers of the events, Chairperson Jay McCauley said:
“Danny was so beloved of his family, friends, comrades and wider republican community. He led from the front in every aspect of the republican struggle and as Officer Commanding of the West Tyrone Command of Óglaigh na hÉireann his premature death was brought on as a direct result of his years on active service.
“His untimely death left a huge void in so many people’s lives, not least his beloved family, and I would call upon republicans from near and afar to come along to these events on Friday to stand in solidarity with the Danny’s family and to remember with pride an inspirational republican who gave his all in the cause of Irish freedom.”
