The Irish Volunteer - Óglach na hÉireann Volume 2 - Number 34

Published on the eve of the funeral of Jeremah O’Donovan Rossa in Dublin, the paper carries a pen portrait of the veteran Fenian. There is curiously little about the funeral arrangements or the major feat of organisation that went into the funeral and which was primarily conducted by the Irish Volunteers, with the Irish Republican Brotherhood the key force in the background.

A lengthy piece by Terence Mac Swiney states that Ireland now faces a supreme test and that moral and physical courage and sacrifice will be required for her to take her place among the nations of the earth.

“The largest force of military cyclists that ever assembled in Ireland” was concentrated at Donaghmore, Co. Tyrone, says the paper, at the end of the Volunteers summer training camp. 110 cyclists took part.
