Lynn Boylan MEP to highlight massive Irish Right2Water march in Europe
THE Irish MEP who has been appointed as author of the "European Citizens' Initiative Right to Water" report says she will highlight the enormous demonstration in Dublin on Saturday and the outpouring of public anger in her report.
Sinn Féin's Dublin MEP Lynn Boylan promised those who took part in Saturday's march that she will be bringing their message back to Europe.
"The European Commission has already received the European Citizens Initiative on the Right to Water, which contained 2 million signatures, and I will now ensure that the Commission is made aware of the massive crowds protesting in Dublin," she said.
An estimated 100,000 people took part in a huge demonstration in Dublin on Saturday to oppose the imposition of water charges on already hard-pressed families across the state.
Lynn Boylan said Ireland is now centre stage in the Right2Water campaign across Europe.
"Activists must continue to "challenge the water charges which were born out of the austerity programme enforced on us from Europe with the compliance of consecutive Irish governments," she said.
