GAA chiefs clash with fans over Gaza banner

Armagh GAA fans' Gaza solidarity banner

GAA FANS are being encouraged by fellow supporters to bring Palestinian flags to this weekend’s matches as GAA chiefs at Croke Park defend their removal of a famous Armagh banner draped over stadium seats because it carried the words: “We stand with Gaza.”

The slogan was added to one of the best-known GAA banners from Armagh fans “Garvaghy Road Orangemen on Tour”.

It was removed by GAA officials during last weekend’s match with Meath because it carried a “non-sporting message”, officials said.

One of those behind the banner, Aaron O’Neill, protested:

“This was about raising the humanitarian disaster faced by the people of Gaza.”

Aaron vowed it will be back in Croke Park this weekend.
