Thousands march to oppose the destructive monetarist policies of the G8 group

Sinn Féin Junior Minister Jennifer McCann was with a strong Sinn Féin contingent that marched in Belfast on Saturday 15 June with trade unionists and many campaign groups to oppose the destructive monetarist policies of the G8 group of industrialised nations meeting in Fermanagh.

As the thousands of marchers arrived at Belfast City Hall, a bedraggled group of loyalists hurled abuse at them and jeered speakers as they addressed the crowd, calling for justice, equality and an end to hunger – and a better world for all.

Progressive Unionist Party leader Billy Hutchinson was among these loyalists and confronted the PSNI, who formed a barrier between the loyalists and the G8 protesters.
