Sinn Féin shows solidarity with Belfast Islamic Centre after attack
‘The Islamic community have been a positive influence on the life of the community’
SINN FÉIN MLA Alex Maskey has visited the Belfast Islamic Centre at Wellington Park today to show community solidarity after it was the target of a paint-bomb attack on Thursday night in what the PSNI are treating as a hate crime.
The attack comes after the killing in London on Wednesday of British soldier Lee Rigby.
The South Belfast MLA said:
“The Belfast Islamic Centre, which is a part of this community should not have to face this type of hatred and intimidation.
“I am visiting the centre today to offer my support to the Islamic community who have been a positive influence on the life of the community.
“Belfast is now a multicultural city and we should be proud to be home for people of all different backgrounds, regardless of creed, colour or nationality. That is the way forward and actions like this will not change that.”
