Pride in Politics – LGBT issues in Newry Arts Centre on Wednesday week (26th)

'I am really looking forward to the parade on the 29th which will showcase Newry as a vibrant and progressive city'

SINN FÉIN Assembly Members Mickey Brady and Megan Fearon were joined by Newry Rainbow Community’s Pádraig Lynch for today’s official launch of Sinn Féin’s ‘Pride in Politics’ event.

Megan Fearon MLA described what ‘Pride in Politics’ is all about:

“Sinn Féin is for equality for everyone on the island of Ireland. Unfortunately, members of the LGBT community still face discrimination in many ways. We wanted to contribute in some way to the Pride in Newry Festival so we have arranged an event on Wednesday 26 September in Newry Arts Centre from 10am to 12 noon.

“This will be an informal event where people interested in LGBT issues can drop in for a coffee and a chat with Sinn Féin representatives.  People will have the opportunity to ask what Sinn Féin is doing for the LGBT community and we hope the Rainbow Community will tell us how we can help them.”

Mickey Brady continued:

“We are really looking forward to Pride in Newry and indeed ‘Pride in Politics’ and we see our participation in the festival as the next step in our campaign for equality for LGBT people.

“Sinn Féin has been to the fore in promoting marriage equality and I am proud that this motion was recently introduced in Newry & Mourne District Council by my party colleagues and subsequently passed.

“I hope that lots of people call in with us on Wednesday 26 September, even if they only have 5 minutes to spare, and I am really looking forward to the parade on the 29th which will showcase Newry as a vibrant and progressive city.”
