Video: Pearse Doherty TD with Irish emigrants in Perth, Australia

The Donegal TD encouraged recent emigrants to join a trade union

SINN FÉIN Finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty TD has been meeting Irish emigrants to Australia in a speaking tour of major cities under the banner ‘Generation Emigration’.

The Donegal TD – himself the son of Irish emigrants to Scotland – encouraged recent emigrants to join a trade union to avoid exploitation by unscrupulous employers and he outlined Sinn Féin's plans for economic recovery and alternatives to austerity back home.

Others who spoke at the event included City of Vincent Mayor Alannah MacTiernan; Mick Buchan, State Secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union; and Irish immigration welfare activist Samantha Melia.
