Mayor Ó Súilleabháin hopes to announce the details of a special bank account for the flood victims

THE Sinn Féin Mayor of Clonakilty, Councillor Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin, says the goodwill and offers of help from the public to the Clonakilty flood victims has been “enormous”.

“Over the weekend I was contacted by painters, carpenters and people offering storage space and vans to assist people whose homes and businesses were badly damaged by the floods.”

To help manage and match the offers and needs, people are being urged to register their names, contact details and help they’re offering flood victims on the Clonakilty Favour Exchange http://www.clonfavour.com/2012/06/clonakilty-flooded-emergency.html

The Sinn Féin Mayor said:

“I want to commend the Favour Exchange Committee for this initiative last Friday and I’m sure it will be of major benefit to those devastated by the floods. I also thank all those people who are offering their trades, property, storage places, etc.”

Mayor Ó Súilleabháin (who was elected only last week) hopes to announce the details of a special bank account being set up for the flood victims and encourage groups, organisations and individuals to fund-raise over the coming weeks and to lodge all monies into this account, which will be administered by nominees from local charities.
