Corrupt Fine Gael politician gets 6-year jail term
The court heard he'd received €80,000 in bribes from developers
A TOP Fine Gael councillor, Fred Forsey Jnr, has been found guilty of accepting corrupt payments was sentenced today to six years in prison with the final two years suspended.
The former Deputy Mayor of Dungarvan, County Waterford, was found guilty after the court heard how he had received €80,000 in bribes from developers and had failed to pay any of it back. The payments were made six years ago but Forsey claimed it was a loan.
Judge Gerard Griffin said Forsey’s crime was “at the upper end of the corruption scale” as he had “attempted to cover his tracks” by backdating a loan agreement.
