Austerity – How others see it

US austerity cartoon

THIS Tony Auth cartoon shows how others see EU economic policies with the US Republican Party chasing them.

Auth is syndicated across a range of US publications, including The New York Times.

On a related note, the attempted censoring of a 1 March TED talk by multi-millionaire Nick Hanauer – on income inequality and on why the wealthy in the US economy are not job creators and are not deserving of tax cuts – offers yet another external view on the economic policies being pursued in Ireland.

The US magazine National Journal reported on 16 May:

“TED officials told Hanauer initially they were eager to distribute it. ‘I want to put this talk out into the world!’ one of them wrote him in an e-mail in late April. But early this month they changed course, telling Hanauer that his remarks were too ‘political’ and too controversial for posting TED.”

In particular, the slide show presented by Nick in this video told a story itself on the economic reality of job creation and tax in the US economy.
