Former POW helps West Cork cumann

Paddy McCullagh, formerly of Strabane, County Tyrone, but now living in Clonakilty, West Cork, recently presented the local Volunteer Martin Doherty Sinn Féin Cumann with a leather wallet-purse he made in Long Kesh in 1974, to be raffled as a fundraiser for the cumann.
Paddy was sentenced in 1974 and was released in 1980 from the H Blocks of Long Kesh, and like hundreds of republican POWs was gifted at making crafts like this.
He is pictured presenting the wallet-purse, which has “Mother” and a Celtic pattern from the Book of Kells inscribed on it, to Clonakilty Sinn Féin councillor and Cumann Treasurer Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin.
People at this weekend’s Ard Fheis will have an opportunity to see this piece of artwork, when Paddy will be in attendance promoting ticket sales.
