REPUBLICANS in north Kerry and the wider community in Fenit are grieving this week after the tragic death of Volunteer Patrick ‘Pa’ Egan.
Pa, a fisherman all his life, died Wednesday last in an accident while lobster fishing off Kerry Head.
From an early age, Pa was involved in the Republican Movement. He was motivated by a deep and enduring commitment to the ideal of a 32-county socialist republic. As a Volunteer, Pa was a trusted and valued comrade, diligent in every aspect of his work, who put the safety of others before his own.

FISHING COMMUNITY
Pa also made a critical contribution to successive Sinn Féin election campaigns in Kerry North, both on behalf of Martin Ferris TD and, most recently, in the European election campaign of Toiréasa Ferris.
A respected member of the community in Fenit, he was to the fore in defending the rights of fishing communities threatened by EU quota rules and government neglect.
The large crowds which attended Pa’s funeral at Fenit and burial in Churchfield testified to the esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. His coffin was carried by both local fishermen and members of the Republican Movement.
